In their continued quest to create innovative, authentic mobile communication experiences that allow their customers to easily and affordably stay connected with family and friends around the globe, Ultra Mobile developed Primo Connect. Primo is an application for mobile, tablets and browser that utilizes Web Real Time Communications (WebRTC) that has significantly expanded Ultra Mobile’s capabilities beyond normal prepaid and cell phone solutions.

The Primo app connects anyone, anywhere with unlimited app-to-app audio/video calling, messaging and file sharing with an option to also call landlines. Users can share photos, videos and music and unlimited voice and calling to anyone on Primo is free.

CHALLENGE

As Primo began to gain traction, Ultra Mobile began to experience threshold limit issues within the system. Due to the rapid growth of the application, Ultra Mobile realized that they needed help scaling their platform to support the millions of customers using Primo.

Blacc Spot Media’s team of Web Real-Time Communications (WebRTC) experts were able to analyze the Primo platform and identify key areas within the Primo architecture that could be optimized to increase system performance and provide better service to their customers.

OUR ROLE

Ultra Mobile engaged Blacc Spot Media to provide an in-depth WebRTC Technology Assessment to thoroughly analyze the implementation of the Primo Connect system architecture.

Blacc Spot Media coordinated between six separate Ultra Mobile teams in four different time zones across the world to help identify enhancement and improvement opportunities within the Primo application. Our assessment allowed Blacc Spot Media to gain an in-depth understanding of the Primo application and provide recommendations that increased performance and scalability, enhanced system security and user experience, while decreasing Ultra Mobile’s infrastructure cost and server utilization by 40%.

Blacc Spot Media helped cut costs, save resources, coordinate internal teams and provide a third-party perspective on how to properly implement the best available solutions. In addition to understanding the business goals and objectives of the solution, it helped our team identify areas in which Ultra Mobile could monetize Primo Connect.
